General FAQ - Ear Wax Removal

What is ear wax removal?
Ear wax removal is a procedure to safely clean excess or impacted ear wax that can cause discomfort, hearing loss, or infections.
Ear wax removal may be necessary to relieve fullness/blocked sensation of the ear and/or to enable otoscopy.
If the wax cannot be fully removed, a second or third appointment may be required with further softening of the wax for a few days between visits using alternative softeners as advised. -
Why do I need to remove ear wax?
While ear wax is natural and protects your ears, excessive build-up can lead to symptoms such as hearing loss, pain, dizziness, or ringing in the ears. -
How often should I have my ears checked?
Regular check-ups and using ear drops (if recommended) can help manage wax build-up. Avoid inserting objects into your ears like cotton buds or any other devies that you can commonly find on amazon. -
Is ear wax removal painful?
No, ear wax removal is typically a painless and quick procedure. Some people may feel mild discomfort if the wax is impacted. -
How do I know if I need ear wax removal?
Common signs include reduced hearing, a feeling of fullness in the ear, pain, dizziness, or ringing (tinnitus). If you’re unsure, a professional evaluation is recommended. -
How to perpare for the appointment?
Using ollive oill drops, like Earol (available in any pharamcy without prescription) for 3 to 5 days prior appointment will help to loosen and soften the wax and significcantly increse teh chance of succesfull removal. -
Are there any risks associated with ear wax removal?
Our Ear Healthcare practiner undertaken training and is certified as competent in ear care and wax removal and will use best practice procedures to minimise any risk.
However, even when performed with the utmost care, there are some risks involved in wax removal. These risks include:
Common (Might happen)
• Complete wax removal cannot be achieved
• Stimulation of cough reflex
Uncommon (Unlikely to happen)
• Discomfort (minimised by application of olive oil prior to appointment)
• Damage to skin of the ear canal (minimised by application of olive oil prior to
appointment)
• Bleeding from ear canal
• Ear infection
• Temporary change in sensitivity of hearing
• Temporary increased awareness of pre-existing tinnitus
Rare (Probably won’t happen)
• Damage to the ear drum during the procedure
• Feeling lightheaded
• Temporary dizziness
Extremely rare (Probably won’t happen)
• Permanent hearing loss
• Increased awareness of pre-existing tinnitus
• Sustained awareness of tinnitus
• Fainting during or shortly after the procedure -
Do you offer a home a visits?
Yes, we do offer home visits.
If you or your family member has mobility problems and/or is over 65 year old, we offer home visits without additional cost. -

We have years of experience of providing care in that aspect. We have also undertaken a training provide by Alzheimer Society and we are certifed as "Dementia Friends"

What is microsuctioning?
Microsuction is a gentle procedure using a small suction device to safely remove ear wax under visual controll by using video otoscope. -
How long does the procedure take?
Most ear wax removal appointments take between 15–30 minutes.

Second appointment is free if charge, We are commmited to provide satisfactory results to all our patients.
